You will find Lagland in the Perigord Vert, (Green Perigord), between Angouleme (30km) and Brantome (30km), on the edge of the Perigord and Limousin Natural Park, the property is ideal for experiencing the richness and diversity of each region. The Charente famous for its cognac, pineau, melons and slippers! The Dordogne renowned for its truffles, the Perigord cep, walnuts, foie-gras and preserved duck cuisine as well as castles and stunning landscapes.
The property offers comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people and has its own (8m x 4.5m, 1.5m deep) private pool which is fully enclosed. The grounds are quite extensive - about seven acres in all. You can wander at your leisure through the hay meadow full of butterflies and then continue on into the little wood where you can join the woodland path that runs down to the tiny village of Fieux with its small privately owned chateau. There is no through traffic at Lagland as the road becomes a track into the woods after the hamlet of four houses.

THE AREA
North-east takes you into the Charente famous for its cognac and pineau. Angouleme with its cathedral and ramparts is the capital. Nearby is the region of the Horte Tardoire . Visit the old watermills or go canoeing on the Tardoire river. Going south-west you enter the Dordogne or Perigord region renowned for its truffles, walnuts and cep mushrooms as well as its many castles and the famous Lascaux prehistoric cave paintings.
The protected nature site at Argentine is part of the Perigord and Limousin Natural Park. Why not take a stroll up to the limestone plateau, (20mins), and listen to skylarks and nightingales singing. There is a signposted walk which points out different features of the plateau including rare orchids, old quarry caves, the elusive green lizard and an old ruined chateau which has a legend of its own!
Other sites of interest include the ancient peat bogs at Tourbieres with the Eco museum and the wild orchid garden Limadore at Cercles.

medieval garden Dignac

Lots of different gardens to visit. Wild or formal its your choice. I like the little medieval garden at Dignac with all the herbs and medicinal plants of yesteryear. Information on gardens in the area will be available in the property.
Nature parks - spend the day relaxing by the many lakes and woodland parks in the area such as the Lakes at Jemaye and St Estephe.

From early April orchids start to flower at Argentine which is a protected site set in the Perigord and Limousin Nature Park, 1km from property.
What seems like a million Orchis Morio spread a purple carpet across the limestone plateau. There are 24 different species of orchid recorded at Argentine.
In the second week of May you can usually see Lady, Pyramidal and Fly orchids coming into flower all along the hedgerows on the road to Lagland.
In the grassland at Lagland you can find Orchis Morio (green-winged), a few Pyramidals and the Burnt orchid which is one of my favourites.
