Les Rossignols d’Ancheyra is a newly converted barn (July 2008) that has been tastefully restored and furnished to accommodate up to 10 people (plus cot). The property has its own private driveway/entrance leading to the car park. A 20 sq/m shady covered terrace leads directly off the living room overlooking the pool and grounds. A large table and chairs are provided so that you can enjoy those lazy long lunches or perhaps a glass or two of wine whilst enjoying the beautiful and peaceful countryside views. There are safety gates at terrace exits (to steps and car park/driveway) for toddler security.

The private and secluded 10m x 4.5m swimming pool (depth 1 m – 1.82 m) and poolside terrace overlooks open, unspoiled views and offers full sunshine all day long. A gently sloping pathway leads from the terrace and car park down to the swimming pool, BBQ and garden areas.

Enjoy evening barbeques in the peaceful, relaxing and romantic ambiance of the illuminated pool whilst you enjoy the spectacular sunsets. Stargazers will be pleased with the wonderful sights of the night sky. The skies have such low amounts of dust and debris that visibility is one of the highest in Europe, due to the fact that there are few pollution producers in this area.

PLEASE NOTE: The pool has an electrically operated security cover, which will support a weight of 85kgs when closed and it is AFNOR approved, conforming to French statutory requirements. However, your safety remains your own responsibility and children must be supervised at all times.

Les Rossignols d’Ancheyra is situated on the edge of the Natural Regional Park of Perigord-Limousin, in the Perigord Vert, the unspoiled northern corner of the Dordogne, known for its landscape of valleys, trees and water. Les Rossignols d’Ancheyra nestles in a small rural hamlet and is set within 28 acres of our own private land consisting of meadows, woodland, streams and large pond, all of which you are welcome to explore at your leisure. There are many woodland areas in and around the property and this contributes to the very high quality of the air. Bird watchers will enjoy watching the wealth of birds in this area and it is lovely to watch the buzzards circling on the thermals and listening to the nightingales at night. We are under the migratory paths and during spring and autumn, migrating birds can easily be seen, including huge flocks of cranes. This is a beautiful position for people with a passion for painting and drawing, with beautiful scenery without even leaving your terrace.

There are many pleasant seating areas immediately outside the villa with garden furniture, table, chairs, and sun loungers. There is a barbecue area and a selection of games for both in the garden and in the pool. Large private car park for several cars to the rear of the property.

LOCALITY & WEATHER

The local area offers swimming lakes with beaches, possibilities for aquatic sport, various historic sights (Richard the Lion heart route) and excellent restaurant and cafes offering regional dishes (truffles from Sorges) in the area. It takes 30 to 45 minutes to drive to Périgueux, Brantome or Limoges.

Ancheyra is perfectly situated to explore the heritage of the region, with its medieval villages and cities such as Limoges, Périgueux (Cathedrale St Front) and Sarlat (Cité Medievale), castles (Jumilhac-le-Grand, Puyguilhelm and Hautefort), prehistoric caves (Grottes de Villars and Lascaux), weekly markets and wine markets (Bergerac).

Our local village of Sarrazac is a 2 minute drive away (or 20 minute stroll) and offers a small general store, a post office, two bars and a restaurant.

The larger village of Jumilhac Le Grand, only a 10 minute drive away, boasts a magnificent château, two cafes/bars, a boucherie, a small supermarket, a post office and boulangerie where you can buy your freshly baked loaves, baguettes and croissants. It is also within easy reach of water sports facilities, swimming lakes (Rouffiac) and rivers (canoeing at Brantome). There are two golf courses within an hour's drive near Limoges and Perigueux. In addition there are opportunities for cycling, fishing, horse riding, mountain biking, roller blading, surfing, tennis, walking, water skiing, wind surfing and rock climbing.

Thiviers, our local town is known as the Foie Gras capital and is a 20 minute drive away. The local cuisine includes Limousin beef, foie gras, duck, walnuts and apples. Thiviers has 4 good size supermarkets. The Saturday morning market at Thiviers is not to be missed with its huge variety of fresh food, vegetables, flowers, clothes, wine, cheeses and fish and live music. Fishing permits are available in Thiviers at the local fishing tackle shop on the RN 21 road. Trout is only one of a number of fish that may be caught and which are kept well stocked by local enthusiasts.

Perigueux (capital of the Dordogne) is very interesting and beautiful and has a good selection of shops. The market days are Wednesday and Saturday (mornings). There is a good choice of cafes and restaurants and many serve a three course lunch from about 12 euros. It has become famous around the world not just because of its history but for the gastronomic specialties, notably truffles, foie gras, honey and liqueurs. There is much to see and do such as the St-Front district; the cathedral; Musée du Périgord and the twice-weekly market that covers most of the central boulevards and pedestrian quarter.

Jean de Cole is one of the most beautiful sites of the region, nestled in the lush hills between Limoges and Périgueux on the road from Thiviers to Brantome. This little village in Perigord is an amazing architectural masterpiece. It owns the title of "finest roofs in France" and is renowned as one of the most beautiful villages in France. There are several good restaurants.

The property is situated within a 15 minute drive of Lake Rouffiac. Its many facilities include a sandy beach, swimming, water skiing, sailing, tennis, climbing walls and restaurants. Perfect for young children or teenagers.

The Grotte de Villars caves are a maze of tunnels running about 13 kms and form the largest network in the Perigord. As well as spectacular examples of stalactites and stalagmites, they contain fine examples of Aurignacian paintings, including bison, antelopes and witches.

Other attractions are horse racing at Pompadour, the magnificent chateaux at Hautefort and Jumilhac le Grande, St. Jean De Côle - which holds the official accolade of being one of the 'Plus Beaux Villages de France' - and the picturesque town of Brantome known as "Little Venice".

During the summer months there are many night markets and wine and antique fairs.
We are also within easy traveling distance of the wine growing regions of Bergerac and Bordeaux
